One of the messages that came through clearly is your desire to better understand how the Medical School prioritizes spending and manages costs. Perhaps the best way to achieve this would be a town meeting at which we would provide an overview of the School's budget and present the rationale behind the tuition increase...

My Pilgrimage to SF City Hall
During our recent spring break I found myself yearning to go home to San Francisco. Possibly stimulated by the early March snowfall in Boston and the 70 degree weather in SF, I decided to follow Horace Greeley's advice to go west, young man. After arriving in SF and changing out of my sweater and cords into shorts and a t-shirt I found myself drawn downtown by some deep, inner force. 'Go to the epicenter, see where the tsunami began' my id said and therefore I hopped on the new BART connection from SFO and got off at Civic Center. As I emerged into the splendor of the California sun, my new Mecca loomed large ahead of me...

Match for Money or Love?
The match list for HMS Class of 2004 came out last week. Out of 170 or so people, 8 are going into Dermatology, 12 into Ophthalmology, and 15 into Radiology. A cynic might say that these specialties are chosen out of proportion among possible career choices among HMS graduates because of their high salaries and "easier" responsibilities...
