Special Edition Part 1:
Cutting the Vandy Cord

Opinion
Roommates
Arash Mostighimi
By this point, we've probably convinced you to look off campus for housing. You're in your mid-twenties after all, and it's about time to start living like an adult, isn't it? Just one problem-you've taken a look at some places, and the only one-bedroom apartments you can afford look like Eddie Murphy's crib in Coming to America. And they're in Hartford. So you move to Plan B: finding a roommate...

Chestnut Village
Will Lack
Located on the border of Brookline and West Roxbury (nice neighborhood full of families and graduate students), very safe

Coolidge Corner
Yvonne Njage
It may be a short walk (=15 min) to school, but it is steps to virtually everything. There are stores galore from supermarkets to pharmacies to the Gap to J.P. licks to Barnes & Noble to movie stores to cleaners to wine store, just to mention a few. And if you decide to eat out, all you have to do is walk a block or two and be bombarded with the choices...

The Fenway I
Rebecca Lewis
The Fenway neighborhood is perfect for someone who wants to get away from Longwood but doesn't want a long commute. I have really enjoyed living here, and I plan to stay in the area...

The Fenway II
Arabinda Pani
The Fenway is almost as convenient as living in Vandy but without all the construction! Just a short 10 min walk to HMS, in close proximity of three T stops and your very own personal bus to downtown (the #55), the Fenway has plenty of transportation options as well as free street parking for residents...

The Fenway III
Anonymous
Pluses:
It is very convenient to bus/T
Lots of things to do nearby...

Fields Corner

Fields Corner
Oni Blackstock
Bisected its entire length, by Dorchester Avenue (endearingly referred to as DOT Ave. by its residents), Dorchester prides itself on being the largest and most ethnically and economically diverse neighborhood in Beantown. Dorchester is dotted with unique, colorful sections such as Savin Hill, Codman Square and Ashmont Hill. But no other Dorchester area is quite as singular as Fields Corner...

Harvard Square
Jeanie Yoon
Harvard Square is a great option for those looking to move out of Vandy. It's within easy access of the M2 shuttle, which takes about 25 minutes from Harvard Yard to Longwood. While it's definitely not as convenient as walking across the street to school, the commute offers a time to talk to classmates, read, or contemplate life...

Inman Square
Moses Graubard
PLUSES:
Great "neighborhood-y" feel
Awesome restaurants (Punjabi Dhaba, Dali, etc.), best ice cream in Cambridge
At least 8 bars/nightclubs within a 5 minute walk
Ryles-Live jazz music...

Mission Hill
Amma Agyemang
I live in the Mission Hill neighborhood.

   1) I love the apartment I have especially because it is situated closer to where the families live rather than next to the college students/ frat boys - ie. it is quieter...
