MESSAGE TO THE LONGOOD CAMPUS
Harvard Medical School Office of Communications & External Relations
HMS and HSDM classes canceled Friday, May 1; HMS is otherwise open
BOSTON, Mass. (April 30, 2009) — HMS and HSDM leadership has been working closely with public health officials today to understand the significance of a potential H1N1 case at the Dental School. As a precaution to protect your health as well as the health of the broader community until more information is known, both medical and dental school classes are canceled for Friday, May 1. Also, students should not go to the hospitals for clerkships, PCE classes or any other activities. Classes are canceled at HSPH as well. (Note that this does not apply to DMS students.)
If you have questions about this situation or about your own health, you are encouraged to contact the Longwood Clinic of Harvard University Health Services at 617-432-1370. The after-hours urgent-care number is 617-495-5711. The clinic will be fully staffed and briefed in the morning.
Also, because there currently is such limited information, students are encouraged to stay home and to refrain from participating in public activities. Again, we emphasize that this is being recommended purely out of an abundance of caution, after careful consideration and with an interest in protecting you and the health and well being of our community.
The most current information can be found on the HMS home page. Included you will find a message
Please help us communicate this information to other students who may not receive this message. Thank you for your support and cooperation as we move forward with prudence and vigilance. We will continue to keep you updated as information becomes available.
Sincerely,
HMS and HSDM Leadership
