Mark A. Rothstein holds the Herbert F. Boehl Chair of Law and Medicine and is Director of the Institute for Bioethics, Health Policy and Law at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Professor Rothstein is a leading authority on the ethical, legal, and social implications of genetics. He is chair of the Social Issues Committee of the American Society of Human Genetics. He has served as an advisor to the NIH, CDC, DOE, U.S. Congress, Institute of Medicine, National Conference of State Legislatures, and numerous other public and professional entities. In 1999, HHS Secretary Donna Shalala appointed him to a four-year term as a member of the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics. He is the author of numerous articles and 14 books, most recently Analyses of Ethical Codes and Opinions of the Medical Profession (with Brody, McCullough and Bobinski), available from BNA Books in the spring of 2001. Among his many honors, in 1999 he received the Public Health Hero Award from the University of California-Berkeley School of Public Health. |
